Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues (ligaments, muscles, tendons, nervous tissue) to promote healing and injury prevention. Massage therapy has many effects, including: increased circulation, increased speed healing, injury prevention, reduces insomnia, decreases pregnancy discomfort in legs, back, neck, chest, and feet. Massage therapy also helps to decrease back pain, headaches, digestive problems, sprains, strains, whiplash, jaw problems caused by grinding (bruxism), and issues related to poor posture and computer work.
Massage therapy is an extremely beneficial therapy, and can help more than physical stresses. Emotional stresses can benefit from massage therapy also. Many people in North America work long hours, often at an emotionally draining job, and do not take proper care of their emotional health. Often there are stresses in family or social life, also. Having a massage will allow you to take that "you" time that many of us simply do not take. The duration of your massage treatment is about you. We put on the music that you like, use the pressure and techniques that you like, and will talk or not talk, letting the conversation be guided by you. By making the massage all about you it will help you to centre yourself, relax physically and emotionally, and allow you to forget about things that don't need to be worried about. Being centred will help you to cope with issues differently by allowing you to be removed from them for a period of time and come back to them refreshed.
Our massage therapists combine techniques such as active release techniques, swedish massage techniques, myofascial release, and craniosacral therapy. Each massage therapist in both our Kitchener and in our Guelph locations has a unique skill set. If there is a specific therapy that you are interested in please call our clinic to find out who is best suited for you.
